about

In 1975 acclaimed documentarians Albert and David Maysles released the first of a pair of films chronicling the life of Big Edie and Little Edie Beale at Grey Gardens, their decaying house in Easthampton, NY. Formerly wealthy socialites, and relatives of Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy Onassis, the mother and daughter are shown as they pass the days in their latter life of squalor, eccentricity, defiance, delusion and co-dependence. The film is an iconic representation of fading fame, fortune and beauty.

Inspired by the spirit of the ladies and the films' imagery and dialogue, songwriter John Keating in 2013 put together a song cycle based on the films, recorded some rough demos of the songs and enlisted the help of co-conspirators Mike 'Roadkill' Evitts on drums and Paul Cardillo on bass. The trio came together in Evitts' hometown of Baltimore, MD (Keating from Maine, Cardillo from North Carolina) to rehearse and arrange the songs.

The basic tracks for 'All in the Stars' were recorded on January 19 and 20, 2016 at Mobtown Studios in Baltimore with Mat Leffler-Schulman handling the engineering and production duties. Overdubs and mixing were done remotely in Harpswell, Maine; Chapel Hill, NC; and Lexington, Massachussetts.
